Friday Favorite: Homemade Stromboli

Friday Favorite: Homemade Stromboli

Posted by Alicia Sell

I should really call this post “How my husband accidentally baked his wedding ring into the Stromboli,” but we will get to that in a minute.

This week’s recipe is an oldie but a goodie at our house and originally comes from the blog Mom’s Need to Know.  It is extremely easy to make and is a fun alternative to ordering pizza on a Friday night.  It got major accolades from my son Colin, who would live on bread alone if he were permitted.  There are lots of options for trying a variety of cheeses and meats to please everyone.

Okay so the wedding ring.  Randall somehow lost his wedding band in the cooking/photographing of this recipe.  We searched and searched the kitchen while the food was cooking in the oven.  He was stressed.  When we cut open the yummy Stromboli, we saw his ring shining amongst the melted cheese and ham. That’s right, he had somehow cooked his ring into the Stromboli!  We were both relieved to find it and that was the piece he got to eat for dinner!  Are his fingers getting thinner?  I don’t know how that happens.  I have to ply my ring off it is getting so tight!

Clearly, I digress.  Back to the recipe.

Ingredients and instructions are listed below.  If you want to try this recipe yourself, scroll to the bottom of the post for a handy recipe card you can print.  If you do try this recipe, let us know how it turned out and if you modified it with any unusual ingredients that made it extra yummy!  Perhaps even more important, if you are not yet a Button Jar subscriber but want to receive our weekly posts, click here.

Very beautiful and I will try this tonight. Yes. Tonight! Maybe I will make two so that I can freeze one to have it ready when I don’t feel like cooking. I will add some red and green peppers and a bit of onion, but I know your son Colin would never, ever, allow that if he were eating it. This was a kid who put a green bean in his ear so he wouldn’t have to EAT it.

I will try this too, but I think I’ll skip the ham and add a layer of fresh spinach, maybe drizzle some marinara lightly over than to put some tomato inside the Stromboli, and if it won’t spoil it for pepperoni hater Wayne, I’ll use pepperoni on MY side!
