Food is such an important part of our lives. There are so many different foods and so many ways to cook, but we often fall into a trap of repeating the same meals week after week. It gets old quickly!
Since starting Button Jar, Abby, Alicia and I have made an effort to seek out other food bloggers doing great work to help stretch what we do and also to bring some variety to the foods and cooking styles we try in our own kitchens. We thought you might enjoy reading these food blogs too. For your reading and tasting pleasure, here are 15 food bloggers worth visiting. Their pictures alone will make your mouth water.
I recently discovered this blog through a recipe sent to me via Yummly.com. Kristine’s tag line is “real food for real families”. I tried Kristine’s BBQ Turkey Sloppy Joes which included lots of healthy vegetables. The whole family enjoyed them. It was hands down the best Sloppy Joe I’ve ever had, and definitely the healthiest. I will be looking for tasty, healthy recipes from Kristine’s Kitchen again soon.
I am in LOVE with this blog! The photos alone will make you want Tieghan Gerard to cook for you. This woman is a real foodie. I tried her Summer Crostini 6 Ways with my daughters, and we all enjoyed them.
This is a new blog to me, but I have already found some great recipes to try with my ladies. I’m always looking for new ideas to tempt their taste buds, and the recipes are great for the entire family! I’ll be trying Charisse’s Broccoli Cheddar Muffins soon.
This is another find through Yummly.com. This blog offers natural, gluten-free, low carb recipes with 10 ingredients or less. Maya’s Blueberry Pistachio Apple Sandwiches are sure to be a hit around here.
Another Yummly.com home run! We just tried the Philly Cheesesteak Cups and they were AMAZING and super easy to make. As a major bonus, Zac and Sarah have what they call Easy Meal Plans that will help you plan dinner for the week.
Lindsay and her husband Bjork are an inspiration to me not only because their recipes are delicious (uh…yes I will eat those raw salted chocolate snack bars!) but also because they made their dream of doing a food blog into a full-time gig. I love people who dream big and make it happen. Her food pictures make you hungry and she has helpful categories such as vegetarian, Quick and Easy and Popular on Pinterest that make searching for recipes a breeze. Her recipes don’t feel overwhelmingly fancy or difficult, so it is a great site for people looking to expand their regular meal cycles. Here are two of her recipes that I am looking forward to trying: Easy Chili Lime Fish Tacos and Raw Salted Chocolate Snack Bars.
Erin’s food blog is dedicated to making wholesome food that tastes incredible. Erin is also a full-time food blogger and the thing I like most about her is that she isn’t afraid of a messy kitchen (because Lord knows mine is a hot mess ALL of the time with 50 billion cups of half drunk water cups laying around. Is anyone else like this?) The recipe index is really helpful because it allows you to search by category, diet type or restrictions, occasions (like holidays) and sweets (my personal favorite). I am kind of on a taco kick right now, so I am looking forward to trying her Blackened Zucchini Tacos. And, because there are so many delicious fruits in season, I think I need to try her Cherry Blackberry Crisp as well.
Even if you aren’t someone who loves to cook or bake, it is worth it to visit Joy the Baker’s website to just see what food art really is. I always feel a little intimidated by her amazing skills, but some of Joy’s recipes seem like they are something I could tackle (see her Summer Tomato Pie). She also has some amazing cookbooks you can check out!
While this is actually a You Tube channel, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of the best kids cooking resources online – Nerdy Nummies. Olivia is obsessed (OBSESSED) with Ro, or if you aren’t in the know, Rosanna Pansino. Olivia watches all of her cooking classes which give entertaining and easy to follow instructions for how to bake. Olivia got Ro’s cookbook for Christmas and has already tried her recipes. Her Cake Pop recipe was a complete success, though we haven’t tried the Pokemon cake pops (next on the list of things to try). This is a great resource for getting kids interested in experimenting with baking.
Once again, this is another Olivia recommendation. I am under strict instructions to tell you the following: “If you are a professional baker or want to be one watch this! She makes professional cakes. She is a pro-baker. For real, Mom. For real.”
Okay, enough said. Her cakes are amazing and creative and pure works of art. Like her Chips and Dip Cake (yes, that is a cake). Her show is sure to inspire imaginations, young and old, expert to novice. Watch it just to be entertained!
This blog by sisters Elsie and Emma is one of my absolute favorites, not only because they have amazing recipes, but because everything on their blog is amazing – from sewing projects to interior design projects to style guides, and more. Everything they do is fun, young and colorful. For example, this beautiful Rosemary Grapefruit Sparkler. If you need a fresh idea for a party drink, then these are your girls. They have delicious food recipes too. Check them out. I hope you love them as much as I do.
Jenny from Honey & Birch is a self-taught home cook. She started to cook when she met her husband, which is a story I can relate to. Her recipes are also completely relate-able, such as her Leftover Chicken Burrito Bowls. Her website is very easy to navigate and her recipes are diverse.
Cami from Tidbits is another blog I visit regularly. I like her clean style, and everything she does is kid-friendly. While food is not the focus of this blog, recently Cami and her sister Marci have been exploring the wonders of pressure cooking. They actually offer a free 5 day email course on how to use this amazing resource. Rumor has it they are working on a pressure cooker cookbook. If you are curious about pressure cooking, check them out and try their Mason Jar Steel Cut Oats pressure cooker recipe.
Dana from The Minimalist Baker is one of my favorites because she sticks to 10 ingredients or less in all of her recipes. But they are anything but boring! Just try her Mushroom and Leek Risotto, which is both vegan and glutan free. Her list of recipes is extensive and well organized.
Kelly Senyei from Just A Taste just updated her website and it’s awesome! Once you see her diverse array of recipes, you’ll understand why she’s been featured on The Today Show, The Food Network, Oprah Magazine and more. In addition to her individual recipes, you should check out her Weekly Meal Plans (along with a handy shopping list!) and her food videos. Since this is the last blog recommendation for this post, I feel it is appropriate to direct you to her Easy No-Bake Recipes, which include this delicious chocolate chip cookie dough dip.
