And the winners are…

We received lots of AMAZING entries for April’s Haiku contest in celebration of National Poetry Month.  Thank you to everyone who participated.  We hope you had fun!  You truly inspired us with vivid imagery that brought your words to life!

If you didn’t get a chance to participate, Button Jar will be hosting another Creative Contest in May (hint: you’ll need to get your hands dirty).  We’ll be sharing details the week of May 2nd so stay tuned!

And now…without further ado…we are so pleased to share the creativity and passion of the Haiku contest winners (and two honorable mentions)!    The three poets who have earned some serious bragging rights (and a prize) are:

First Place

The winner of the competition took our breath away with this beautiful and personal poem, which captures perfectly the change having a child can bring in an instant.  It made us cry!

By Teresa Kelly

The fire consumes
Romantic ignorance dies
Love pours and souls meet

Second Place

By Carole Bernstein

Belly of a trout
glimmering above rooftops:
twilight April sky.

Third Place

By Robin Palley

Last warm day
Bringing in the basil
And a slow fruit fly

We had so many great submissions that we decided to throw in a couple of honorable mentions for your reading pleasure.

Honorable Mention

Being a Grammy
By Linda Day

Peeking in the crib
Blowing vibrating kisses
Grammy: she smiled

Red Bird
By Colin Sell (aka Alicia’s middle son)

A red bird awakes
to the ongoing thunder
Readying to strike
