Haiku Contest Reminder

Just a quick reminder to all our readers that Button Jar is hosting a haiku contest to celebrate National Poetry Month.  We have received several fantastic entries already.  Now we want to hear from you!  You don’t have to be a professional poet.  You just have to like having fun (and by fun we mean writing a clever haiku).  And you could win a prize, so, why not?

Contest details

All entries must be received by Monday, April 25 at 5 pm ET.  The winners will be announced on Friday, April 29th and will have their haiku posted on Button Jar (along with a few other favorites).  There will be prizes (be sure to read to the bottom of this post)! The rules are simple:

  1. It must be something you wrote.
  2. It must be a haiku. Haiku usually follows a 5-7-5 pattern, though an experienced poet shared with us that modern haiku has evolved and, because the Japanese syllable is not the same as an English syllable, does not necessarily need to stick to the 5-7-5 pattern.  It’s up to you.  If you want some guidance on haiku, we encourage you to visit the Haiku Society of America’s website.  If you want to read an example of haiku that we wrote, click here.
  3. Be creative!

Submit your entries to buttonjar3@gmail.com.  Multiple submissions are encouraged.

Prizes (besides bragging rights)

First Place – A beautiful journal for writing more amazing poetry and a $20 gift card to Amazon.

Second Place – A $10 gift card to Amazon

Third Place – A $5 gift card to Starbucks

So get writing!  What are you waiting for?  Email the Creative Crew directly at buttonjar3@gmail.com with questions and to send us your submission.  Thanks, again, to those of you who have participated already!
