We are finally back from our trip to Hawaii! As you can see, it was torture.

Okay – enough with the bragging.  It was fun and I am extremely grateful to my in-laws, Jim and Carol Sell, for taking us on a great vacation.

Blueberry Banana Smoothies

smoothie_blueberriesI have to say I love vacation but it’s nice to have a home cooked meal!  Last night I decided to make an old favorite for dessert that is yummy but not overpoweringly sweet – Blueberry Banana Smoothies. I found this recipe by Cooking Classy many years ago on Pinterest.  If you didn’t notice, a lot of our recipe ideas come from Pinterest.  In fact, the Button Jar Pinterest page is full of yummy recipe ideas you can peruse at your leisure. I did want to disclose that not all of the recipes I try from Pinterest turn out great (in fact I made one last month that Colin said I was forbidden to share on the blog because it was NOT GOOD) but this one is a favorite for our family. Easy, healthy-ish, and refreshing on a hot summer night. Enjoy!

Ingredients

2 ripe bananas
1 cup Berry juice blend (we like Cran-grape juice but water it down a bit)
1 1/2 cups Blueberries (preferably frozen but I mix in fresh ones too)
3/4 cup Frozen yogurt, fat free (or full on delicious slow churned vanilla ice cream – your call)
1 1/4 cups raspberry sherbet or sorbet
Ice cubes (up to 8) Lego man ice cubes seem to make this recipe extra good.

Mix It Up

In a blender, add the bananas, juice, blueberries, yogurt, and sorbet.

smoothie_mix1 Depending on how thick you like your smoothie to be, add ice.  I add four ice cubes, or, for this particular recipe, 8 small frozen Lego men.  Use what ya got!

Blend all of the ingredients together and serve immediately.

This sounds like a keeper. Even though there was a time when Colin wouldn’t eat anything starting with a B — broccoli, blueberries, beans, etc. etc. I can’t imagine that he isn’t just over the moon about this recipe!
